Although
the practice of decorating trees is attested to in many different
times and cultures, Christmas decorations of the type we are
familiar with today originated in Germany.Early
German decorations were made of wax. Fruits were common, to
evoke the tree in the Garden of Eden. This practice is probably
descended from the Tree of Life that featured prominently in
the medieval Mystery plays, which was similarly decorated.
